This is probably halfway done. Deceptively difficult, as I'm trying to get the movement in the water and the feel of the wind that day. Still a long way to go, but getting there.
This is the updated wave. I've toned down the green and yellow, and softened the smaller wave. Next will be working a little more on the break at the top of the large save and refining the sky.

New show and upcoming holidays
Rehearsals began tonight for "Leading Ladies" at Possum Point Theatre. I'll be playing Meg. This is a pretty funny comedy by Ken Ludwig, who also wrote "Lend Me a Tenor" which was my first show at Milton Theatre years ago.
3 more working days till Christmas break. I'm looking forward to it. No idea what I'll be doing specifically, but hope to get some painting and traveling done. Oh, and probably some Christmas shopping, since I've done none of that. Yeah, that would be a good idea.

A Beautiful Mess
You've got the best of both worlds
You're the kind of girl who can take down a man
And lift him back up again
You're the kind of girl who can take down a man
And lift him back up again
You are strong but you're needy, humble but you're greedy
Based on your body language and shoddy cursive I've been reading
Your style is quite selective but your mind is rather reckless
Well, I guess it just suggests that this is just what happiness is
Based on your body language and shoddy cursive I've been reading
Your style is quite selective but your mind is rather reckless
Well, I guess it just suggests that this is just what happiness is
Hey, what a beautiful mess this is
It's like picking up trash in dresses
It's like picking up trash in dresses
Well, it kind of hurts when the kind of words you write
And kind of turn themselves into knives
And don't mind my nerve you could call it fiction
'Cause I like being submerged in your contradictions, dear
And kind of turn themselves into knives
And don't mind my nerve you could call it fiction
'Cause I like being submerged in your contradictions, dear
'Cause here we are, here we are
Although you were biased I love your advice
Your comebacks they're quick and probably
Have to do with your insecurities
Your comebacks they're quick and probably
Have to do with your insecurities
There's no shame in being crazy depending on how you take these
Words I'm paraphrasing this relationship we're staging
And what a beautiful mess, yes, it is
It's like we're picking up trash in dresses
It's like we're picking up trash in dresses
Well, it kind of hurts when the kind of words you say
Kind of turn themselves into blades
And the kind and courteous is a life I've heard
But it's nice to say that we played in the dirt, oh dear
Kind of turn themselves into blades
And the kind and courteous is a life I've heard
But it's nice to say that we played in the dirt, oh dear
'Cause here we are, here we are
Here we are, here we are
Here we are, here we are
Here we are, here we are
Here we are, we're still here
Here we are, here we are
Here we are, here we are
Here we are, we're still here
And what a beautiful mess this is
It's like taking a guess when the only answer is yes
And through timeless words and priceless pictures
Well fly like birds not of this earth
And tides they turn and hearts disfigure
But that's no concern when we're wounded together
And we tore our dresses and stained our shirts
But it's nice today, oh, the wait it was so worth it
Well fly like birds not of this earth
And tides they turn and hearts disfigure
But that's no concern when we're wounded together
And we tore our dresses and stained our shirts
But it's nice today, oh, the wait it was so worth it

Hurricane Sandy in progress
This is the very beginning of a fun painting of a Hurricane Sandy wave. I'm using black, white, sap green and naples yellow only. The silhouette in the bottom front will be a portion of a dune fence eventually. There's a long way to go, but it's got possibilities.

A beautiful quote
“If it wasn’t for the mist we could see your home across the bay," said Gatsby. "You always have a green light that burns at the end of your dock."
Daisy put her arm through his abruptly but he seemed absorbed in what he had just said. Possibly it had occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished forever. Compared to the great distance that had separated him from Daisy it had seemed very near to him, almost touching her. It had seemed as close as a star to the moon. Now it was again a green light on a dock. His count of enchanted things had diminished by one.”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Things they do in Hell
If Hell exists, I don't believe there is a "one Hell fits all". I think we each have our own personal Hell. I was reflecting on this while I was driving during a short snow squall on the way home from VA (which, being only November, is what got me thinking about Hell in the first place.) My Hell would look kind of like this, keeping in mind this could change frequently:
1. There would be t.v.'s. They would all be on, all the time, and would feature golf, Judge Judy and Fox News on a rotating basis.
2. The only sport available would be golf. But you couldn't play, you could only watch it...on one of those t.v.'s.
3. Every afternoon at 2, your job would be to paint a new ceiling, and that ceiling would be a popcorn ceiling.
4. All of your clothing would be the type of clothing that's been left in the washer for a little too long, giving it that stale, mildewy smell.
5. 24 hour a day country music. (Please let me go to Heaven.)
6. Pots of boiled cabbage and rhubarb on the stove, all day every day.
7. Hell neighbors who have habits such as: talking extremely loud about sensitive subjects (politics, religion...), make that "hocking" noise with their throats....constantly, wear shoes that squeak with every step, snap their gum, whine constantly about their health while they sit on their asses and eat crappy food.
8. Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is the only song on the radio.
9. There is no coffee, orange juice, wine or pizza.
10. The only incoming calls to your cell phone are salespeople.
I reserve the right to add to this list.

Thoroughly Modern Millie
This is the in-progress set painting I am doing for Thoroughly Modern Millie, which opens at Clear Space Theatre on November 14, 2014. These flats are huge! It's taking a while, but it's kind of fun too.

Plein Air Brandywine Valley
What a great event! I've spent the last 3 days painting in Greenville, DE, Chadds Ford PA, and West Chester PA. The exhibition/sale/judging will be at Winterthur, tomorrow night - October 24, 7 p.m. A portion of the sales benefit The Children's Beach House. We were given certain locations to paint, including Janssen's Market, Haskell's Farm, Marshall Square Park and various private homes.
Wednesday was VERY cold and VERY rainy. Thankfully I brought my plein air umbrella.

Sold - at Taste for Art
These three sold on Saturday, plus another plein air from Lancaster, that I can't seem to find a photo of. The Beach Crossing on the bottom had some more work done to it after this photo was taken. The color was toned down a bit, but can't seem to find a final photo of that one either. Anyway, great night!

Rainy Day Plein Air
I have painted plein air in the rain before, but have forgotten how fun it can be. When the sky is rolling around and the clouds change from white to gray to violet to an almost brown/violet with upcoming rain, it can make for some pretty exciting painting. Saturday was this kind of morning. Some rain, some wind, and lots of amazing clouds. It was hard to keep up with the changing colors. And it makes painting a plain blue sky pretty dull.
This is Gordon's Pond, Rehoboth.
