Memorial Day

Thanks to all who served!

What a beautiful morning! The house is quiet after a weekend of company. We had a blast. First day at the beach, a little sunburned, Haley got to play beach vball. Nice. So, looks like another beach day, some painting, a nice day off.

Yesterday's P.S. fave.

Wow. Really?

MMA fighter Wyatt faces murder charge

A mixed martial arts fighter who allegedly gouged out another man's heart and eyes after drinking mushroom tea will stand trial in Northern California on a murder charge, The Times-Standard reported Wednesday.

Jarrod Wyatt, 26, also faces charges of aggravated mayhem and torture stemming from the grisly March killing of his 21-year-old friend Taylor Powell, after a Del Norte County Superior Court judge ruled Wednesday there was sufficient evidence to put the case before a jury.

Wyatt, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is due to reappear in court Friday for arraignment.

Powell was killed at a home in the coastal town of Requa, about 40 miles south of the Oregon board, early on March 21. He bled to death after his heart was removed from his body while still alive, according to his death certificate.

Deputies, responding to a 911 call, found Wyatt at the scene.

Another man had raised the alarm after allegedly seeing him naked and dripping with blood, standing over the mutilated body.

The witness told officials Wyatt had earlier been acting strangely after drinking “some kind of mushroom tea.”
Wyatt's MMA career is still in its earlier stages. According to Northern California's The Daily Triplicate, he had won his first pro bout in October.

Low lifes

Okay - so this isn't completely about art - but it is related indirectly. There are people going around Sussex County (and a million other places too, I know, I know...) stealing from unlocked cars in driveways. I was robbed the other night while I slept. The x*!*@ stole my CAMERA. The camera I use to take reference photos for paintings, to shoot finished works, the camera that had all of the Alyson Stanfield workshop photos on it....etc. UGH! What is wrong with people? I know I should have locked the door, but forgot this time. They stole other things from my car too, but the camera (and bag, and lens, and flash drive) were the things that hurt the most. Just made me sick to my stomach. Not only was it critical to what I do, but it was expensive as well. I have to hope that karma makes its way around very quick for this "special" person. And I hope that whatever thrill you get from stealing from other people is doing whatever it needs to do for you. Loser.

Dumbing Down - Daily OM

Dumbing Ourselves Down -Wanting to Join

There is a difference between shifting our energy to accommodate people we are around and dumbing ourselves down.

The ability to go into any social situation and sense the level of consciousness in that situation is a gift. It enables us to move considerately in a world that holds people of all levels of awareness. However, there is a difference between shifting our energy to accommodate people and dumbing ourselves down to a regrettable degree. Sometimes, when we get into a particular social situation, we may feel pressure to play it small in order to fit in. Perhaps everyone is drinking or smoking excessively, engaging in gossipy small talk, or complaining bitterly about politics. It is one thing to notice this and modify our expectations and another thing entirely to join in.

When we notice where people are coming from and acknowledge to ourselves that their energy is not in alignment with ours, we have several choices as to how to proceed. One viable option is to quietly endure the situation, keeping to ourselves until it is time to leave. In this way, we take care of our own consciousness and protect our growth process. Another option is to interact in a way that honors and pays respect to the people in the group, while gently attempting to shift the level of consciousness with our input. In order to do this, we must maintain our own vibration, which means that joining in by dumbing down is not an option.

When we choose to dumb ourselves down to fit in, we not only sell ourselves short but we also lose a possible opportunity to influence the situation for the good of all concerned. Our desire to join in may come from our natural yearning to feel connected to the people around us. There is no shame in this, but being able to stand on our own, separate from the crowd, is a powerful milestone on any spiritual path. It can be difficult in the moment, but when we arrive on the other side, our integrity intact, we may find ourselves feeling positively smart.

Sunday

Today's Post Secret - a good thing to remember.

So, what a great weekend. Alyson Stanfield of Art Biz Coach came to the Rehoboth Art League for a day and a half seminar on "Shameless Self Promotion - How to promote your art online". I have taken several classes with Alyson and am always impressed with how professional she is and how much there is to learn. She leaves you pumped up and re-excited about the possibilities in your art career. I will probably be blogging a lot more about my art and a little less about other things for a while, as that's one of the things she stresses. Keep the personal personal, and the business business. So maybe I'll start a personal blog for the general rantings I do on occasion.

Will be hanging a new show at Cafe Sole on Monday. Very excited to be showing the new lifeguard series. Michelle Aquilino and I will be installing, and will really changing the look of the show - new hanging system, muslin backdrop, etc. Looking forward to it.

In the studio from about 2 - 6 today, stop on by...

who's that?

In the News Journal this morning.  :)

And once again

Dusty

Dusty is getting ready to leave on a training cruise with his school for 45 days. He's going to great places - Ireland, Greece (a little worried about that one, with the turmoil going on) Portugal...and another one I can't remember. He doesn't really get how special this is, and I think it's because he's focused more on not seeing his girlfriend for all that time. I remember how that is, having gone through exactly the same thing with Dustin's Dad many years ago. I saw this video that Dusty made, and it really choked me up. He's such a sweetie, I'll miss him too. Love you Dusty.

Think I'll go to Boston

Well, the weather people got it right, it was a fantastic weather weekend. And a great weekend otherwise as well. No studio work, just couldn't bring myself to stay inside. I'm promising myself to get something done this week. Promise, promise.
