Lean To

http://karinjurick.blogspot.com/2011/04/lean-to.html

A link to Karin Jurick's website. She's a fabulous artist who does the coolest paintings of people in museums. This one thrilled me because it's my favorite of Picasso's, and I have a reproduction that I did hanging in my kitchen (of Demoiselle's D'Avignon).

tonight's in progress...

Very rough beginning of a Lewes Beach house. Just blocked in right now. Planning on making the sky more dramatic at the horizon.

Rough in of a Wilmington Avenue facade. Tried this one in palette knife and is has now been gessoed over. Gotta make sacrifices sometimes, even when they hurt.

Another couple of steps on the umbrella shack. Also, still very rough.

Block in and stuff.

Okay, so working on a big one now, but one that should go pretty fast. The subject matter is relatively simple, but the size is signifcant. I painted this same scene last year and it sold right away. That's the idea.  :)

Here's the initial sketch:

Here's the first blocking in stage.
This is the completed painting from last year. This year's will be similar, but obviously not identical. I'll keep ya posted!

Do you have a land line? I do, and the only reason I do is because of Comcast's triple play. The only people who call me on it are telemarketers (especially the U of D, damn them), Cape Henlopen School District, and once in while, my parents...if they can't me on the cell. It seems to ring when I'm either laying down, about to zzzz for a while, or early on a weekend. Today it rang while I was relaxing and I seriously considered throwing it against a wall. I think I'll just turn the ringer off.

Cross B off the list.

Bay Avenue, Lewes.

Marriage

Saw a quote today that said, "everyone needs a first marriage to find out what you don't want!" I can agree with that one, and have spoken to several people who swear by their second marriages. Good news.

Beautiful day today. Unfortunately the a.c. is on already at work. I spent the whole winter being cold, now would like to be warm.

Busy busy busy with painting. Starting to liquin the finished pieces and getting them in frames. Moving along. Refining my focus this week and hope to get a few extra ones in, as I'm behind my (self-imposed) schedule. And any of you who know me, know how I get when I get "off schedule."

And it was all yellow.....

Crazy pollen! Got the full enchilada car wash on Saturday and you should see my car today. It looks like someone airbrushed it with cadmium yellow...and maybe just a smidgeon of yellow ochre. My office is covered too because the windows are open. I heard someone refer to pollen as "tree sperm." How's that for a visual??

PS

What we really captured me with this week's PS fave is the banner behind these women. I cannot fathom how women were actually treated, not that long ago. Lumped in with lunatics, criminals and idiots....who was the judge that got to choose who the idiots were? Sounds to me like they were pretty prevalent. I give these two ladies big thumbs up for standing up for basic, civil rights. We've come a long way baby....but still have a way to go.

Hilarious stuff.

Finished

I was just going to call this "Marsh" but think it will be "Bombay Hook" instead. Thanks to Mike Gallaway for the great photo to work from. This will be either in the live (has to be chosen to be in that) or the silent auction at the Beebe Auction on June 11.

Ain't that pretty at all.

I think I'll go to the Louvre Museum, get a good running start and hurl myself against the wall. 'Cause I'd rather feel bad than not feel anything at all.

RIP Warren!

VA Winery Run

This is a cool video of the half marathon in Loudon County on June 4. There's a few more hills than there are in Sussex County. I could feel my heart pounding out of my chest just watching. But it looks like a beautiful course just the same.

Ways running is good for you....some great stuff here.

This is still in progress, still playing with the sky and clouds. Terribly dark photo, sorry about that. It's close, and will post the final product in the next couple days.

I stand with Planned Parenthood.

Some good stuff here. I used PP for years when I was younger. Never for an abortion, but for basic medical tests and birth control. They provide a worthwhile service to many women who can't afford or don't have medical insurance.

Harold's Planet.

I just love these cartoons. They're so sweet.

Today's Post Secret fave

In Progress

This is a large one, in progress. I'm working on the sky from right to left, so you can see that it's a little tighter over to the right. This one will be in the live auction at the Beebe Art Auction in June. My friend, Mike Gallaway took the photo I'm working from.

And this one is a house on Virginia Avenue in Rehoboth. This photo was taken before it was completely finished. Made a few corrections, but you get the idea.

Ran 10 miles today. In training for the June 1/2 marathon. Training going well.

Best Card Trick Ever

Best Card Trick Ever

St. Pete

This image came up as a St. Petersburg Florida beach. I will be there in a few days. If it really looks like this, I will officially die and go to heaven. (Yes, I'm going to heaven....if there is one.)

Words

DEADLY TERMS USED BY A WOMAN. (1) FINE - this is a word women use to end an argument when they know they are RIGHT & you need to SHUT UP. (2) NOTHING - means SOMETHING & u need to be WORRIED. (3) GO AHEAD - this is a dare not permission DO NOT DO IT. (4) WHATEVER - is a woman's way of saying F**K YOU. (5) THAT'S OK - she is thinking long & hard on HOW & WHEN you will pay for your mistake.....
