New York, New York

What a beautiful weekend. Fall stayed away for the most part, and let summer shine.
I love to visit NYC, but am always happy to return home to the quiet and the clean. Central Park is pretty nice - a little haven away from all the street grossness.

This was the Morgan Library/Museum. I probably have the name wrong, but I'm close. This was a beautiful glass exhibition, where the panes of glass reflected the light and colored panels on the window and made lovely prisms while you were in the lobby.

Amazing architecture around NYC, if you pay attention. Great light here too, could be a painting possibility.

Skies and more skies

This sunset, and the blue sky below were both on the same beautiful September Sunday. The blue in the photo below doesn't begin to capture how deeply blue and amazing it really was. And the sunset - as always, very short and fleeting, but just captivating. Like a painting in the sky.

And here's an  update on the Lewes Beach painting. I've changed it again, since this pic. But you can see the figures on the beach, which I think help. I'm working on making the water reflect the sky.

Like it was yesterday

My memory of this day:

I was out for a run on a beautiful September morning. I remember running past a landscaper who was talking anxiously into a cell phone. I knew something was wrong, but assumed it was a personal issue.

As my friend and I ran back to the YMCA, I again had the feeling that something was wrong. Things were too quiet, the air was tense. As I walked down the hallway, people were huddled in front of the televisions in the fitness center. My first sight was something similar to the one above. The first building had been hit, and people had no idea what was happening, and were assuming it was an accident. Within minutes, we all saw the second building being hit by the second plane.

The shock and the physical feeling that hit us all was palpable. A few minutes later, the news of the Pentagon came across the screen. I truly felt our entire country was in danger and left work immediately to get my kids from Rehoboth Elementary, just a few minutes away. Apparently I wasn't the only one. Parents were flocking to the school to get their kids. I didn't know what we'd do, but knew I had to get to them. I took them home and we just cuddled and I tried to explain what was happening, with the little information any of us had. Dustin kept asking me why they kept showing that "same show" over and over. He was referring to the video of the planes hitting the World Trade Center. They were too young understand. Dustin was 10, Haley was only six.

Boston 2015

Boston Bound!

Well, finally! I am registered the Boston Marathon, April 20, 2015, after 5 marathon attempts at qualifying. I did qualify once, but the qualifying times were changed after I qualified. But now, I'm in - just have to wait for time verification. Very psyched!

A little more tonight. Debating putting silhouettes of people on beach....without cheesing it up.

New one in progress

Well, it's been a while since I painted in the studio - probably not since July. That always seems to happen this time of year, go figure. I could feel the urge starting again the other night, and made it as far as walking into the studio, seeing a primed canvas on the easel, and puttering around picking things up off the floor. I left, not touching the canvas, but knew the desire was rushing back.

So last night, I went back. And I spent about an hour getting this painting started, blocking in colors. I got quite a bit done in that time, or started I should say. This will be a Lewes beach scene. Very early in the game, but it felt good - kind of along the lines of getting a massage or doing yoga - as I stood at the easel. Good to be back.

The Bottle and Cork 10 miler was yesterday. Temps weren't bad, the humidity......ack. Around 80 at the start, with 89% humidity. Sticky, hot, pretty awful for the second five miles as the temps went up. Very little shade on the course, as you can see. I'm kind of amazed I was smiling. hahahaa....Got second in my age know, 25-29.

Post Labor Day Peace

This is one of my favorite places to be, one of my favorite sights. This is a section of the bike trail, which is a clam shell path. The views to the right and to the left will take your breath away. It's peaceful and perfect and secluded, and just perfect. Every where you go, you think it can't get prettier, but oh it does.
